Site specific installation for Idea Store Whitechapel, London, UK; mixed media; variable dimensions; 2010
This piece was created in response to the reading room / gallery at Idea Store, Whitechapel in London.
The room has a bright red vinyl floor, black leather sofas and a number of books and computers, and is a
well-used space. By including floor, walls and pillars in the installation, the work investigates to which
extent the surroundings become part of the work. Black gaffa tape, a black boxing ball, metal and
acrylic were used in response to the black leather sofas; folded foam, a styling head and a loaf of bread
were used because of their formal and suggestive narrative qualities, a roll of vinyl was placed on the
floor and created a zone or a platform which directly related to the red floor covering.
